Hey there,
I’m Kolby. Here are my cards: I’m convinced the world needs more enchantment for all that is alive. We understand reality through stories, and as the myth makers, it is our responsibility to invigorate the stories we tell with wonder. This belief drives the work I do and the courses I offer.
I went to the University of Pennsylvania, where I double majored in International Relations and History and minored in Journalistic Writing. Then I worked for a while as a business journalist at Global Business Reports, producing sector-specific publications, including one on India’s pharmaceutical sector and another on Québec’s mining industry.
When you live out of a suitcase, you wake up to a lot of different windows. Looking through one of them, it hit me: I was limiting my way of relating to the world by clinging to such a narrow, productivity-fueled sense of individualism. Since then, I’ve been working on creative research projects that explore a more interconnected worldview, including a recent yearlong Fulbright fellowship to the South Pacific.
I also mentor youth, helping them tap into their curiosity as an alternative to a learning experience fueled by anxiety. For a while I was a private SAT tutor, independently and through Stonehall Tutors, helping students raise their scores by 200+ points on average. Now, I work mainly with students aged 6-13 and offer curated lesson plans that build on students’ interests and incorporate play into the learning process.
I’m greedy. I want the world filled to the brim with sharp minds asking big questions.
